Scripture That’s Been On My Mind This Week…

“Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, ‘I do believe; help my unbelief.’”

Mark 9:24 NASB

My heart aches for this worried father!  Doesn’t yours?

He’s at his wit’s end.  Not that he’s angry with his son, it’s just that he’s been dealing with this possession of his son’s very life for a very long time.

You can feel his own heartache and exasperation in his words, “If you can…”!  He’s about to give up hope.

His faith’s weakness is reflected in his response to Jesus, “Lord!  I believe!  Help my unbelief!”  And Jesus, moved with compassion for the father and the young man, releases the boy from his captive state.

The ache we feel for those in our lives who are captive to something other than God is real.  It’s genuine, and it hurts deeply.  We see their pain and we suffer right along with them.

What are the lessons in this moving story?

Faith, trust, and belief don’t have to be perfect, just present.  God responds to the smallest amount of faith, trust, or belief.

And, don’t give up.  Just when you believe you’re at your wit’s end, your tiniest faith will move God to move mountains for you!
